The Ducati Pantah was the first model to have belt-driven camshaft motors. First shown at the Milan bike show in 1979, it was released in 1980 as the 500Sl with a trellis frame which went on to be a trademark Ducati feature. The motor acted as a stressed member and the swing arm pivoted from the rear of the crankcase, and a toothed rubber belt was used to drive the single overhead camshaft. 1981 saw the release of the 600SL wearing a fairing and using a hydraulic clutch; the last of the 600s had MHR paint. It ran until 1983 which then saw the production of the 650SL to homologate the TT1 750 Racer, carrying only minor changes from the previous 600SL. The new 650 had more torque and distinctive yellow and red paint and is often considered the Pantah to own.
