Known as the TF-model in Australia but the Mark V model globally, this final Cortina model was first announced in the UK in August 1979 and was released here in April 1980. Manufactured in Australia, the TF was largely an update of the TE-model that went before it but with revised headlights with larger turn indicators incorporated (now visible from the side), a wider slatted grille said to be more aerodynamically efficient, slimmer C-pillars with revised vent covers, larger slatted taillights (on sedans) and upgraded trim. Ford also claimed improved corrosion protection, but corrosion remained quite a problem for the TE and TF Cortinas, making them a rare sight on the roads today. Engine options on Australian TFs were unchanged from the TE, with the choice of 2.0 litre four-cylinder or 4.1 litre in-line six-cylinder engines, with four-speed manual or three-speed automatic transmissions. Variants included the L, GL, and luxury Ghia models, plus an optional ‘S’ pack based on the GL model. Both a four-door sedan and wagon were available, however the TF sold poorly and was dropped from Ford’s Australian range altogether in 1982.
