Description

Ford's classic F-series pick-ups and trucks have become a legend and are among America's favourite things on four wheels, regularly outselling conventional passenger vehicles. 1948 saw the beginning of the F Truck and little did Ford realise at the time that it was on such a winner. Things evolved slowly at first with mainly cosmetic changes, but by 1953 the grille, guards and bonnet were all stylised into the body, that year also giving birth to the F100 and F150 badges. In 1959 Ford developed the 292 cubic inch V8 and 1961 again saw more body styling changes, before the 240and 300 cubic inch six-cylinder engines were released in 1965. Three trim levels then became available two years later. The 360 V8 replaced the 352 in 1968 and the F100 got coil springs, while 1970 saw the Ranger XLT introduced, the ubiquitous 302 with 220hp was also now available and over the next few years larger engines and automatic transmissions also appeared. Ford has continued to market its F100 pickups in several configurations and spin-off models to this current day, and they remain a popular work and leisure truck for many people worldwide.
