The Ford Mustang is an enduring automotive legend, one that passes from generation to generation with no sign of its popularity waning. In its 30th Anniversary year, Ford launched a new generation Mustang based on a revised version of the Fox platform, with a longer wheelbase and widened track to improve handling. The new Mustang's styling was all-new, with design cues like the long bonnet/short rear deck and side intakes harking back to the original 1964 model, and was sold in both coupe and convertible versions. Safety equipment was enhanced through the use of twin airbags and disc brakes on all four wheels were now standard, with ABS optional. Ditching the four-cylinder engine, the standard motor was now a powerful 3.8-litre V6, with the 5-litre V8 available for those seeking even more grunt, while transmission choices included the standard Borg-Warner T5 manual or optional four-speed automatic. The GT model added stiffer suspension, bigger wheels and tyres plus more interior equipment. As always, there was a long option list that enabled the Mustang buyer to personalise his or her new car to unprecedented levels and the car was a hit with the public and motoring press alike, with Motor Trend magazine awarding the latest Ponycar their ?Car of the Year?. Ford carried the strong selling 1994 model over into the following year with no significant changes. Modern Mustangs have retained the popularity of their forebears, both in America and here in Australia, affording all the style and driving pleasure of the original with modern reliability, safety and luxury. The Mustang on offer here is a car that can be enjoyed on a daily basis but one that doubles as the perfect weekend cruiser.
