Description
Despite the introduction of the Commodore in the late Seventies, demand for the traditional full-size Holden was strong enough to ensure the Statesman continued in production and in April 1980 the final incarnation, the WB model, was introduced. Consisting of no less than four commercial and two Statesman models, the latter boasted all-new sheet metal with distinctive side window treatment and new interiors, with a new dash fascia, instruments, seats and numerous minor improvements. From August 1983 there was the Series II model with better equipment levels and a walnut instrument fascia. The Caprice had a new digital radio/cassette, electric mirrors and a dash-mounted trip computer. Exclusive to the Statesman was the optional 5-litre V8 engine, T-bar auto, alloy wheels and velour trim (with leather optional). The final WB Statesman rolled out in 1985 after 60,231 were built and it remains a much loved Australian luxury car even today.
