The HK model was a new generation Holden introduced in 1968 and featured an all-new body on a longer wheelbase (up to 111-inches), with American-influenced styling that was longer, wider and with significantly more interior space. The HK was significant for a number of reasons - it was the first Holden offered with the option of a V8, the Chevrolet sourced small-block, the model range was revised to include the Belmont (replacing the old Standard), the Kingswood (formerly the Special) and Premier models - joined in July 1968 by the Monaro sports coupe and the luxury Brougham. With revised sheet metal, particularly around the boot, the Brougham was the flagship in the Holden range and was pitched squarely at Ford's Fairlane. With the 307-cid V8 and Powerglide transmission as standard, the Brougham also featured power front disc brakes, power steering, a vinyl roof, Brocade upholstery, heater/demisters and carpeting - all at the price of $3,855 at the time of introduction.
