Description
The last project of the combined Brock/Holden Dealer Team/Holden partnership, the VL 'Brock' Director was intended to take on the high-end European import market, with the emphasis on crushing performance and ultimate luxury. It was unveiled on 20 February, 1987. Taking a Calais as a base, the Director's specification included leather or cloth/velour seats, wood-grain trims, pile carpet floors, car phone and sophisticated four-speaker stereo system with CD Player. A Director could be specified with Momo star alloys, or Simmonds rims. Under the skin the Director was the most advanced Holden yet with its independent rear suspension offering high levels of refinement. The 4.9-litre V8 produced 223kW, with a 5.6-litre 'stroker' package also available. With a bespoke bodykit the Director stood out visually as well as from behind the wheel, but the project was doomed from the start. Though it was shown in Europe and the United States- where it was well received- the rift between Brock and HDT meant only nine Directors were built (according to HDT) before the relationship ended.
