Description
1937 saw the introduction of the new Chevrolet Master Deluxe range and, alongside the revised master range, presented a massive investment from the Chevrolet company, with retooling costing around USD$26 million alone. With new styling overseen by Jules Agramonte a key feature was a body crease that ran across the front wings and extended through the front doors. A new six-cylinder engine OHV displacing 216.5ci was installed under the elegant new bonnet and the transmissions used had improved synchromesh. On a 112.5-inch chassis, the Master and Master Deluxe came in six body styles, Master Deluxe models getting improved front suspension and a shorter final drive ratio for more performance along with improved trim and accessories. It is believed that over half a million Master Deluxe Chevrolets were built in 1937, keeping them ahead of arch-rival Ford in the sales stakes.
