Norton's Commando series of large parallel-twin powered bikes was introduced in 1967. The ohv twin displaced 745cc (nominally 750) and though the motor was 'pre-unit' in terms of design the bike as a whole proved popular with contemporary road testers and the public alike. The frame was designed by Dr. Stefan Bauer and was thoroughly modern with its isolastic system massively reducing vibration issues. The initial models included the fastback and a scrambler, and both employed twin-leading shoe front brake systems.
Production of the Commando continued over the next decade, with the final Mk3 bikes displacing 850cc.
