The Pontiac Grand Ville took over the Bonneville's mantle as the premier Pontiac product when it was introduced in 1971. It mimicked other GM brand's premium products with its own chrome treatment and a comprehensive list of standard equipment to set it apart from lesser models. Standard fitment was the big-block 455ci V8, which was moved to the options list in 1975 when the smaller 400ci was slotted in as a reaction to the oil crisis. Backing up the V-8s was a 3-speed automatic transmission and other equipment included power steering and front disc brakes to go with its commodious front seats and luxury interior leather trimmings. In its last year (1975) it was renamed the Grand Ville Brougham and added further standard equipment such as power windows to go with the revised engine options. The Grand Ville was also offered in Convertible form, which was made in limited numbers- the highest production figure for the convertible style was achieved in 1975 (around 4500 units) when word was out that it would be the last full-sized Pontiac convertible available for a long time.
