Designed by E.T Gregorie, the 1937 Ford V8 range introduced horizontal slats to the front grille in a way similar to the more grandiose Lincolns of that time. The sedan bodies utilised structural steel throughout for the first time and amongst other improvements the available removable hoods now hinged from the rear rather than down the centre as before.

Under the bonnet the venerable 221ci Flathead V8 received several key revisions, mostly designed to make it cool better, while a cable-operated braking system replaced the previous mechanical system. The 221ci produced 85bhp and in combination with a smaller version of the same theme, the Model 74 fitted with a 136ci flathead, total sales exceeded 750,000.

With so many examples produced across several body-styles (including the Coupe and Sedan) these cars are relatively easy to restore today- with spare parts being plentiful in the US in particular although according to the 2008 roster of the Early Ford V8 Club of America out of 10,400 members there were only 15 Club Cabriolets.
