Description
The Morgan Motor Company is among the oldest independent automobile companies in existence with their turn of the century factory in Malvern Link, Worcestershire, England, producing classic sports cars today just as it has for nearly 100 years.
Introduced in 1968 and remaining in production until 2004, the Morgan Plus 8 remains one of the most exciting of all Morgans, with its instant and enduring popularity credited with saving the company from bankruptcy. The Plus 8 was originally based on the chassis design of the Morgan Plus 4 to which was added the Rover alloy block 3.5L V8. The car's chassis and wings were developed in stages to accommodate larger tyres to handle the power.
The early Plus 8s came with two SU HS6 carburettors and a compression ratio of 10.5:1. However in 1976, the compression was increased to 9.35:1 when an improved version of the block developed for the Rover SD1 was adopted.
