Engine builder and drag racer Peter Dichiera of Victoria built his first Corsa, based on the VR Berlina, in the early 1990s and went on to establish a reputation for creating high performance, individually styled vehicles. With ADR compliance, Corsa Specialized Vehicles entered series production of his next creation, the Veloce and naturally turned their attention to Holden's stylish Monaro when that car was launched to rave reviews, creating a package worthy of the model. The standard list of enhancements included sports suspension with IRS camber kit, a 305 kW version of the LS1 V8, stainless steel high output headers, stainless steel exhaust, 19-inch alloy wheels and 245/35ZR19 tyres. A styling kit, including a bonnet with engine vents, gave CSV's Monaro - badged the Mondo GT - a unique appearance and uprated brakes completed the package. CSV's Stage 2 (305R) Mondo consisted of a blueprinted engine and for those for whom more power was never enough, there was the 6.5-litre 400R model listed on the VY. The Australian press have always been big fans of CSV's products, recording some impressive numbers over the years and the CSV routinely bested the HSVs and all but the best European exotic car builders in testing.
