Introduced to widespread acclaim in late in 1964, Ford's Mustang was breaking all sales records by 1967, surpassing the million mark the previous year. Having left the Mustang largely unchanged for the first couple of years production, Ford decided it was time for a revamp in 1967 - driven in part by the appearance on the market of rivals from Chevrolet and Pontiac. The Mustang was available in three body styles, the convertible, notchback coupe and fastback with a wide range of engine and transmission options. The look for 1967 was bigger all round - longer, wider and with more interior space, plus revised styling front and rear and simulated rear quarter panel scoops. With wider track, the bigger tyres, the new Mustang had a tough stance and many prefer the look of the '67s over the first generation cars for this reason. Inside, the dashboard was redesigned and a fold-down rear seat added to the fastback to increase luggage space. The general range of options was extended, with a wider choice of engines (from the base six-cylinder unit through the various 289-cid V8s and the availability of a 390-cid big block V8 for the first time), several transmissions, and the GT/GTA package. The Mustang is a great choice for the classic car buyer; fast, good looking and inexpensive to run, they also continue to have a strong market in Australia and are a solid investment.
