The Tri-Five range of Chevrolets, sold between 1955 and 1957, has earned classic status for two main reasons - the fantastic styling and the (optional) small-block V8 engine. This motor quickly gained cult status thanks to its inherent smoothness, high-revving ability and impressive power output - a generation of rodders and racers employed Chevrolet's small-block V8 to great effect. Chevrolet added the V8 to the Corvette line-up for 1956 to give their sports car some much-needed punch. There were three basic model lines within the Tri-Five family offered in the period, starting with the base level One-Fifty, the intermediate Two-Ten and the top-of-the-range Bel Air. For 1956, the Bel Air came with a more conventionally styled grille and plusher interior trim, in addition to richer carpet, extra chrome around the windows and unique stainless steel trim moldings down the sides. The customer could order the Bel Air in four different body styles, including the sedan, convertible, station wagon plus the hardtop coupe being offered here. As the 1956 sales brochure said, "It's agile...quick....solid and sure on the road. The Hot One's Even Hotter". Hailing from the rock 'n' roll era, the 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air is an American classic and one of the most sought after cars from the Fifties, with values appreciating all the time.
