The 1959 Chevrolets featured longer, wider and lower styling, losing the upright lines of the previous years offering. The tail section was particularly impressive, with dramatic "batwing" style fins along with lavish use of chrome decoration to emphasis the new Slimline design. As the advertising said the '59 was "...shaped to the new American taste with a lean, clean silhouette". For 1959 the Chevrolet line-up consisted of three distinct models - the Biscayne, Bel Air and luxurious Impala with additional brightwork and interior appointments such as an electric clock, dual sliding sun visors and aluminium trim. For those who found the standard four-door sedan a little plain there was an elegant pillarless hardtop sedan with flat top roof treatment available at extra cost. The Impala was offered with either a 235-cid six or 283-cid V8 engines and no less than seven different transmission options. The '59 Chevrolet Impala Sports Sedan is a rare find in Australia and the perfect weekend cruiser, guaranteed to turn heads wherever it goes.
