The first Land Rovers built in 1947 used very similar dimensions to the World war II Jeep - in fact the first prototype was actually built on a Jeep chassis.
However following its unveiling at the Amsterdam Motor Show in April 1948, the Land-Rover began to develop its own distinct character from the early 1950s, with a longer wheelbase and new engines from the Rover car range.
