With a claimed top speed of 193km/h from its 4.9 litre in-line six-cylinder engine, the 1957 Continental Flying Spur was the fastest four-seat coupé of its time, and was hailed as one of the most elegant and yet powerful saloons ever created.
The chassis consisted of front coil-springs and rear semi-elliptic leaf-spring suspension, with anti-roll bars; cam-and-roller steering, power hydraulic front and mechanical rear drum brakes, but it was the model's alloy paneled elegance that has made it one of the most collectable of Post War Bentley models. The 1957 Continental was recently paid the ultimate compliment of being the inspiration for the just-announced 2006 Continental Flying Spur.
Bentley's media release describes the 1957 model as being ?the most desirable coupe of its day, delivering awesome performance as well as extraordinary comfort and elegance?.
