Shannons celebrate '60s' in classic style

The Beatles' White Album, the Woodstock Festival, Flower Power and Man's first walk on the Moon are all '60s classics currently marking their anniversaries and Shannons are celebrating by putting a range of iconic '60s vehicles under the hammer at their Melbourne winter Auction on June 1 - a number of them unreserved.

From the United States, comes a beautiful Series 3 1964 Corvette, a pair of Ford Mustang Fastbacks from 1966 and 1967, a 1966 Pontiac GTO and a 1969 Dodge Phoenix 'Custom' Convertible.

From Germany there are two very desirable Mercedes-Benz sporting models, a 280E 3.5 V8 Coupe and a 280SL 'Pagoda Roof' convertible, plus a very original 1964 VW Beetle -all offered for sale unreserved. And from Britain there is a well-presented Old English White 1961 Jaguar Mk2 2.4 litre Manual Saloon.

Meanwhile Australia is represented with a stylish 1964 Ford Falcon XM Futura Coupe, a 1966 Holden HR Special Sedan, a 1961 Holden EK Ute and a very nicely maintained 1969 Holden HK Brougham 307 Sedan.

Bargain hunters will be out in force for the well-presented dark green left hand drive 1966 Mustang Fastback with its six cylinder engine and three-speed manual transmission that is being offered unreserved, with Shannons quoting a guiding range of $18,000-$24,000.

Also unreserved and appealing to large American convertible enthusiasts will be the rakish four-door right hand drive 1969 Dodge Phoenix 'Custom' Convertible that Shannons expect to sell for $7,000-$10,000, while the 1969 HK Brougham with its 307 V8 engine and automatic transmission will also be sold to the highest bidder (range $8,000-$12,000).

For American muscle car enthusiasts, the star attraction is the stunning 1964 left hand drive Chevrolet Corvette 327 Coupe finished in Satin Silver with black interior that Shannons expect to sell for $66,000-$74,000.This matching numbers 4-speed manual gearbox Series 3 coupe was imported two years ago from the US by its current owner and according to Shannons is in very good order.

Equally pristine are a Turquoise left hand drive 1966 Pontiac GTO Coupe ($38,000-$44,000) and a cream 1967 Mustang Fastback fitted with the desirable 390-cid V8 and automatic transmission combination, which Shannons expect to sell for $45,000-$55,000.
