Berliet
Berliet built cars from their Lyon, France, factory from 1895 until 1939. Their early attempts were modest and typical of the very early cars with horizontal twin cylinder engines mounted in the rear and driving through four speed gearboxes and with wheel steering. After the turn of the century the engine size grew and was transferred to the front to drive through a chain and in due course some competition experience was tried with success. The company grew in stature and Berliets were made in the USA under licence and from 1923 until the end of the life when the company was taken over by Citroën after the Second World War, a range of classy sedans and tourers were sold around the world.
