'World Class' Classics dominate Shannons Melbourne Summer Auction
• Stunning Martin & King-bodied Rolls-Royce 20/25HP Coupe
• Great selection of Post-War American cars
• 14 great black and white numeric number plates
The world will again be watching Shannons from 7pm on Monday (November 23) when a number of Classics with international interest and collectibility go under the hammer at Shannons Melbourne Summer Auction.
Rolls-Royce collectors will be focused on a 1929 20/25HP Coupe fitted with very stylish Australian coachwork by specialist Martin & King.
Presented in nicely restored condition, this early 20/25HP model has emerged from long-term storage following its comprehensive restoration from 2003-2004.
Shannons predict strong overseas interest at its guiding range of $60,000-$70,000.
Enthusiasts of early Post-War American cars are already honing in on a stunning right hand drive 1948 Mercury Convertible – one of only a handful in Australia – that was imported into Australia in 2000 and has since covered minimal miles since a ground-up restoration to show standard.
It is expected to be in demand at its anticipated selling range of $85,000-$95,000.
Alternatives for American car enthusiasts include a very rare left hand drive 1949 Dodge Wayfarer Roadster ($45,000-$55,000) still fresh from a fastidious bare metal restoration, a rare Australian-built 1938 Pontiac ‘Sloper’ Business Coupe and a well-preserved left hand drive 1950 Studebaker Champion Sedan offered with ‘no reserve’, while for Vintage enthusiasts there is a nicely-presented 1924 Chrysler ‘Six’ fitted with its original right hand drive Fisher sedan body ($15,000-$20,000).
Meanwhile Euro buyers will be eyeing the very collectible 1989 BMW M3 Convertible that has been converted professionally to right hand drive ($42,000-$48,000), a well presented 1968 Mercedes-Benz 300SEL 6.3 Saloon ($22,000-$28,000) and a beautifully maintained 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280SEL ($15,000-$20,000).
Collectors will also be interested in the 14 black and white numerical Victorian number plates in the auction, topped by ‘180’ that is expected to make $100,000-$120,000. Other interesting numeric plates include ‘7,700’ ($14,000-$18,000) and ’88.889’ which is offered with no reserve at a conservative $10,000-$15,000 selling range.
All 42 vehicle and 30 garagenalia and number plate lots in Monday’s auction will be available for viewing over this weekend at Shannons Melbourne showroom, 321 warrigal Road, Cheltenham, from 9am-4pm Saturday and 10am-4pm Sunday.
