Rods and Rockers roll out for Shannons May 18 Sydney Late Autumn Auction

By Shannons - 13 May 2015

• Stunning right hand drive Ford Hot Rods

• Extensively modified ’59 Chev Bel Air cruiser

• Spectacular, just-restored modified Mustang Fastback

Enthusiasts who want more from their Classics than the maker originally offered, will be delighted with the offerings at Shannons Sydney Late Autumn Auction on May 18, with some spectacular Street Rods and Modifieds on offer.

This 'no expense spared' '32 Ford Five-window Coupe is one of two spectacular Ford Street Rods in Shannons Sydney Late Autumn Auction on Monday (May 18), both expected to sell in the $35,000-$50,000 range.

Street Rod lovers are faced with the choice between two stunning early 1930s Fords – a ‘no expense spared’ ’32 Ford Five-window Coupe and a well-executed ’34 Ford Coupe.

Finished in custom gold paintwork, the right hand drive ’32 Ford was originally built using an early Deuce Customs fibreglass Five-Window Coupe body and runs plenty of ‘trick;’ gear, including a heavily modified 302-cid Windsor V8, C-4 Street Fighter transmission and has an 8-inch Borg Warner diff and coil over suspension.

According to its owner, the Rod represents total investment of more than $90,000, with Shannons estimating conservatively it will bring between $35,000-$50,000 at Monday’s auction because of its exceptional presentation and performance.

This smooth '34 Ford Rod being auctioned by Shannons in Sydney on Monday (May 18) features a strengthened '34 frame and locally-made Three Window coupe body and is still fresh from its comprehensive 2005-2008 build.

An alternative for Ford Rod fans is a well-executed right hand drive 1934 Ford Coupe also offered from a private collection.

This smooth '34 Ford was built by Troy Creswell of Batemans Bay in 2005-2008 using a strengthened '34 frame and a locally-made Three Window coupe body using moulds from Pete Osborne in New Zealand.

Powered by a 302-cid Windsor V8 topped with a four-barrel Holley carb, with a C-4 transmission and running a 9-inch diff, the Ford presents very well, with its bright yellow paint and beige upholstery both still fresh and virtually blemish-free, indicating very little use.

Shannons expect it will bring similar money to the ‘32 Ford on Monday –$35,000-$50,000 – again a conservative estimate.

This eye-catching right-hand-drive 1959 Chevrolet Bel Air ‘Cruiser’ with dramatic ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll’ styling is expected to bring $16,000-$20,000.

Enthusiasts interested in more recent Modifieds have the choice between an eye-catching right-hand-drive 1959 Chevrolet Bel Air sedan and a recently restored and extensively upgraded left hand drive 1970 Ford Mustang Fastback.

A standout in its eye-catching yellow paint, the Chev features dramatic ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll’ styling and has numerous cosmetic and mechanical upgrades, making it an ideal and well-sorted Cruiser.

It runs a 5.7-litre V8 mated to a Turbo 350 transmission, with electronic ignition and an LPG conversion, while power steering, a disc brake front end, revamped suspension, an electric sunroof, central locking, an alarm system, air conditioning and seat belts all round have been added to improve its ‘cruise-ability’.

Shannons expect it to sell for $16,000-$20,000.

This heavily modified 1970 Fastback comes to Monday’s Shannons Sydney Late Autumn Auction fresh from a ground-up restoration that cost in excess of $86,000.

Mustang enthusiasts will love the heavily modified left hand drive 1970 Fastback, which comes to the auction fresh from a ground-up restoration.

Offered from a small private collection, the Mustang was purchased in 2011 and underwent a fully-documented, no expense spared restoration by Benny's Custom Garage of Goulburn, NSW, with receipts totalling in excess of $86,000.

The works includes its bare metal respray in Sky Blue with silver stripes, completely re-trimmed interior, while its mechanical upgrades include a Windsor V8 stroked to 408-cid, a Ford AOD street strip transmission complete with a Lokar 8-inch shifter and 9-inch diff, disc brakes all round and five-spoke 17-inch alloys.

Shannons expect it to find willing bidders in the $34,000-$42,000 range.
