'No reserve' lots to dominate Shannons Melbourne spring Auction
• Ultra-rare c1927 Harley-Davidson creates world-wide interest
• ‘No reserve’ E-Type coupe excites local enthusiasts
• Many ‘no reserve’ sporting cars, Aussie and American classics
Bargain hunters will be flocking to Shannons on Monday (September 21) with 26 of the 43 cars and motorcycles on offer being offered with ‘no reserve’ at its Melbourne spring Auction.
The clear standout of the eight ‘no reserve’ motorcycles on offer is a very rare ‘barn find’ circa-1927 Harley-Davidson 8-Valve Racer with sidecar – one of fewer than 50 examples built and believed to be one of only a handful of to survive, especially in its condition and patina.
The Harley has already attracted worldwide interest from collectors, with Shannons expecting it to sell with ‘no reserve’ for a substantial six-figure sum.
Meanwhile the headline act of the 18 ‘no reserve’ cars is a very desirable UK-delivered 1969 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Series Coupe that has already attracted a lot of pre-auction interest at its anticipated selling price in the $32,000-$42,000 range.
Five other British and European sporting cars are also being offered with ‘no reserve’ including a very rare in Australia and extensively refurbished 1977 right hand drive Lancia Montecarlo MkII Coupe and a two-owner from new 1962 Jaguar MkII 3.4 Saloon (both $8,000-$12,000), a 1999 Westfield SE Clubman offered by its original owner/builder and a nicely-restored and presented 1967 MGB GT Coupe (each $12,000-$16,000), plus an Australian-delivered 1985 Mercedes-Benz 380SL with both hard and soft tops and a good history ($22,000-$28,000).
Unusual classics being offered with ‘no reserve’ include an extensively-restored 1970 Leyland Mini Moke ($10,000-$14,000), a nicely-restored and rarely seen 1953 Renault 750 4CV Sedan ($6,000-$9,000)
Quirky commercial vehicle with ‘no reserve’ are a circa-1980 Bolwell Suzuki Mini Truck – one of approximately 30 of these eye-catching promotional vehicles made ($6,000-$10,000), a rare and collectible 1970 Peugeot 404 Utility ($7,000-$10,000) and an ex-British Army 1955 Austin Champ 4WD Utility ($12,000-$16,000).
Great Australian Classics that will go to the highest bidder on Monday are a are a collectible XP Ford Falcon coming from long-term ownership that has been upgraded to 250-cid specs ($10,000-$14,000) and one-owner and unrestored 1976 Holden HJ Sandman Panelvan ($18,000-$24,000).
Meanwhile there is a number of large American Classics, including a rare and well-optioned front wheel drive 1970 Oldsmobile Toronado V8 Coupe ($12,000-$16,000), a vast and very rare right hand drive 1988 Chrysler Newport Convertible and a nicely-refurbished 1964 Ford Mercury Comet Caliente left hand drive Coupe (both $15,000-$20,000).
All lots in Monday’s Melbourne auction will be available for viewing over the weekend at Shannons Melbourne showroom, 321 Warrigal Road, Cheltenham, from 9am-4pm Saturday and 10am-4pm on Sunday.
