Motorclassica

Australia’s premier automotive exhibition, Motorclassica, has been confirmed again for 24-26 October 2014.

Motorclassica is this country’s only annual event for rare and exotic, historic, vintage, veteran, classic and collectable cars and motorcycles of international significance.Set to be staged once again in Melbourne’s magnificent 19th century Royal Exhibition Building for the fifth consecutive year, Motorclassica attracted record crowds in 2013 which were more than 30 per cent up on previous years.

“Excitement around Motorclassica 2014 is building all the time, and the entries are flooding in for what I am sure will be our best show yet,” Paul Mathers, Motorclassica Event Director said.

“Although we are only in our fifth year, what’s gratifying is that the event has reach far beyond Melbourne … we are seeing significant visitor numbers from overseas and interstate, as Motorclassica has become the ‘must do’ event for the collector car and motorcycle community.”

Motorclassica 2014 is anticipated to feature more than 100 cars and 50 motorcycles throughout the historic halls of the Royal Exhibition Building, and over 400 more in the surrounding grounds, which will once again feature the regionally-themed Club Sandwich car club displays proudly supported by Lorbek Luxury Cars.

Celebrated marques this year will include Italian icon Maserati, whose 100th anniversary has prompted a special display of 20 incredible cars telling its story.

Fifty years of Ford’s most successful and globally-recognised car, the Mustang, will also be celebrated with an array of models right up to the present day.

Recognising one of motoring’s most historical achievements 50 years ago, Motorclassica will pay homage to Donald Campbell’s World Land Speed record set right here in Australia in Bluebird CN7.

“We have sourced some display pieces, memorabilia and film footage of truly historic significance from around the world, as tribute to Donald Campbell and Bluebird, and we also plan to make some very exciting announcements around this celebration later in the year,” Paul Mathers said.

Australian motor sport is famous for its countless Specials built in the early years of the sport here, and Motorclassica will recognise these truly unique racing vehicles of the ‘40s and ‘50s with a special display.

Of course, Motorclassica wouldn’t be Motorclassica without the annual Australian International Concours d’Elegance, sure to be contested once again by an array of the world’s most fabulous, important, significant and valuable cars and motorcycles.

Another regular feature of Motorclassica will be the Auction, once again conducted by Theodore Bruce.

And, as always, Motorclassica will kick off on the Thursday morning with the annual Tour Classica which will see a tantalising field of entrants drive through the streets of Melbourne’s CBD prior to taking up residence at the Royal Exhibition Building.
