Misano, San Marino: MotoGp Post-Race Report

By FORMULAMotoGPMag - 15 September 2015

What a race it was yesterday at Misano where Marc Marquez topped the podium followed by Bradley Smith and Scott Redding. Yes, you heard right. Rossi finished fifth and Jorge Lorenzo crashed out after hitting the throttle too early on cold tyres. The championship leader is now 23 points clear of the Spanish Spartan though Lorenzo more determined than ever to claw back. What should have been a double Yamaha podium turned into a disaster for both riders after they gambled their chances away with a loss! Marc Marquez picked it right and went with his gut instinct to came in and switch tyres. The riders had two pits stops. They went from slicks to wets and then wets to slicks. Rossi was playing mind games whilst Marc decided to evaluate the conditions in the best ways possible.

It was a sensational ride of the day by Scott Redding who crashed his bike into the gravel at the start of the race and then managed to bag a podium finish. His determination was incredible to watch after such a tough season. On the other hand, Bradley Smith took a chance and it paid off! Bradley thought, luck favours the brave so why not go for it. It was not until he came around the corner to see the screens that he realised he was second. It was an amazing event to watch as the crowd cheered loudly for Rossi upon every maneuverer. The track conditions were mixed considering the asphalt was newly completed and it tested the rider’s ability to adapt quite significantly. The same can be said for the Moto2 and Moto3 classes where the riders battled it out left, right and centre.

Johann Zarco was victorious once again whilst Enea Bastianini bagged his first ever career victory after taking a risk and it certainly paying off. His riding skills were on show for everyone to see and he has that young Rossi flare that was present when Vale first entered the sport. Rossi mentors Enea and you can see the hunger within his eyes. This is an incredible quality to have because it helps to progress within a sport that can have its highs and lows. The same can be said for Johann Zarco who in 2014 was working hard to improve and now is unstoppable in the Moto2 class. His focus, calm persona and attitude in racing is inspiring to say the least. Zarco performed his world famous backflip in full race kit once again and demonstrated that he is not afraid to push the limits of gravity and competitive track racing!

Overall, the Misano circuit put on an impressive show for all of the fans that made their way to the track and everyone around the world watching from their television screens. The next event is Aragon where the tension between Rossi and Lorenzo will be clear. There is a Championship on the line and the adrenaline between rider and fan will rise! The same can be said for Moto3 as Enea is catching Danny Kent whilst Johann Zarco looks to take the title very soon. For those who are heading down the Island in October, we look forward to seeing you there and watching Jack Miller in action. Jack finished 12th at Misano and is eager to keep improving!
