Jay Leno's fanaticism for all things automotive has become legendary and while his "Big Dog Garage" is not open to the public, Jay is very public about the goings on in this Southern Californian car enthusiast's treasure house.
For enthusiasts, his website jaylenosgarage.com/the-garage/ is a great opportunity to explore the delights of his collection, and listen to Jay outline the history of his cars and bikes. He really is an authority on all things automotive. His collection spans more than 100 years of automotive history. These are not, however, museum pieces, but working examples he enjoys driving or riding today!
Jay's "Big Dog Garage" is spread across two low slung buildings and is one of the world's great car and bike collections. It's also one of the world's best equipped custom-built garages, designed from the ground up to keep everything running in tip-top shape. The garage itself is about 17,000 square feet - sizeable to say the least for a private garage. There's enough space to work on about a dozen cars at any one time - attended to by Jay and his dedicated workshop staff.
About a quarter of the space is taken up by the machine shop, which includes a massive amount of specialist equipment. Since you can't exactly go down to the local auto shop for parts for pre 1900 cars and bikes, the garage is geared up to fabricate parts and do just about anything that is required to do the job. The garage facilities include a CNC Mill, water jet cutter, sheet metal equipment, lathes, regular mill and welding equipment - and a whole lot more!
So check out what is motoring heaven at jaylenosgarage.com/the-garage/ - there's hours of enjoyment for the passionate car and bike enthusiast.
