There is an eclectic mix of classics lining up for Shannons Melbourne Late Summer Auction on February 23, with the majority of the lots already listed to be offered with ‘no reserve’.

For early Holden collectors, there’s a great opportunity to snap up a ‘pigeon-pair’ of time-warp early 1960s EK models, both coming from a Perth collection and each expected to sell with ‘no reserve’ in the $10,000-$15,000 range.

The 1962 EK Utility was purchased by the current owner at a clearing charity auction back in 2009 after the previous owners had left it sitting in a garage since 1971. Prior to that, the first owner’s sister drove it for the nine years from new.

The Ute is still in largely untouched condition, with original hoses and bushes and its odometer showing only 47,482 miles, believed genuine.

Holden EK Ute
This 1962 Holden EK Ute that spent 38 years stored unused in a garage is expected to sell with ‘no reserve’ in the $10,000-$15,000 range at Shannons Melbourne Late Summer Auction on February 23.

Its sister 1961 Holden EK Sedan from the same collection is another time capsule, with a documented 9,264 miles showing its odometer. It is complete with all original trim, including floor mats, head lining and seats.

Adding to its collectability, it was ordered new from the factory in a single colour – Cameo Beige – rather than the two-tone paint that identified most 'Special' EK Sedans of the era and has a very rare NASCO Picnic shelf fitted to the rear of the front bench seat. It is also being offered with ‘no reserve’, with Shannons expecting it to sell in a similar $10,000-$15,000 price range.

Another time warp classic in the February 23 auction is a rare 1972 Capri XL Mk 1 four-cylinder 1600cc Automatic Coupe – still with its original owners manual and maintenance schedule in the glove box.

Nicely presented in white with a factory-fitted brown vinyl roof, this now hard-to-find and stylish Ford is also expected to sell in the $10,000 to $15,000 price range.

For 4WD collectors there is a 1967 Land-Rover 2A Series 109 ‘Workshop Utility’ in very original, unrestored, but fully-operational condition, ready for work on the farm, or as a solid base for a restoration.

According to Shannons, the old ‘Landy’ runs and drives well and should comfortably make its guiding range of $5,000-$7,000 when offered with ‘no reserve’ on February 23.

Finally for enthusiasts of Post War American cars, there is a striking and very rare original right hand drive 1948 Dodge Custom Convertible that was originally built for the South African market and was imported from the US by the current owner back in 1986.

As soon as the Dodge arrived in Australia it was repainted in its current eye-catching red livery, fitted with new two-tone tan upholstery, with matching brown carpets and given a new cream fabric roof.

Finally, its six cylinder engine was rebuilt in 2008 and it has since been driven monthly on club events ever since. Because of its great presentation and its usability as an everyday classic, Shannons expect the Dodge to attract willing bidders in the $42,000 to $50,000 range.
