Classic ’Boxers’ to punch above their weight in Shannons March 2 Autumn Auction
• Three Rolls-Royce and Bentley models on offer
• Two Porsche 911s
• Three sought-after Citroens
Four famous ‘boxer’ Classics are expected to punch above their weight at Sydney Autumn Classic Auction this Monday (March 2).
The 2001 Bentley Arnage Red Label Saloon owned by Aussie former Welterweight boxing champion, Kostya Tszyu is expected to sell for a heavyweight price of $95,000-$120,000 because of its provenance, condition and very low kilometres.
Fitted with Bentley’s then most powerful turbocharged 6.75-litre V8, and fitted with every conceivable luxury feature, Kostya’s Emerald Black with Cotswold beige leather trim and optional polished chrome alloy rims looks stunning and has covered just 43,000 documented kilometres from new.
It is one of three Rolls-Royce and Bentley cars in the auction, joining a lovely Australian-delivered six-cylinder 1949 Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn Saloon – the 15th built – that has been with the same NSW family since 1973 ($32,000-$38,000) and a 1985 Bentley Eight V8 Saloon offered for sale with ‘no reserve’ ($15,000-$20,000).
There are also two famous ‘boxers’ from Germany in Monday’s auction – a brace of Porsche 911s with their trademark six cylinder horizontally opposed engines.
For tarmac rally enthusiasts, the 1971 911T 2.2 Coupe with its substantially- enhanced 2.2 litre engine and rally-tuned suspension makes appealing buying at its $55,000-$65,000 guiding range as values of early Porsches continue to go through the roof Internationally.
Meanwhile enthusiasts looking for a Classic-looking Porsche that can also be a great daily driver will be looking at the Australian-delivered 1987 911 Carrera 3.2 beautifully presented in Granite Green with grey leather trim offered with ‘no reserve’ and expected to sell in the $44,000-$48,000 range.
Finally from France there is another ‘boxer’ in the featherweight class – a charming and very desirable Citroen 2CV Fourgonnette van.
Beautifully-presented following a bare-metal restoration, the 2CV with its horizontally-opposed and air cooled ‘boxer’ flat twin cylinder engine is expected to appeal to collectors or someone wanting an eye-catching promotional vehicle at its expected selling price of $18,000-$26,000.
Also for Citroen lovers there is a 1952 Citroen Light 15 Sedan that has benefitted from previous cosmetic refurbishment that is offered with ‘no reserve’ ($15,000-$18,000) and a late model and well-maintained D Special ‘Goddess’ ($8,000-$12,000).
