By FORMULAMotoGPMag - 13 April 2015

Marc Marquez is back on top! The Spanish Ant has won the 2015 race at Austin, Texas. His performance this weekend was spectacular after a drama filled qualifying session, which resulted in Marc jumping the pit lane wall and sprinting for his second bike. Marquez had an incredible start to the race chasing down the Ducati of Andrea Dovizioso. It was not long before Marquez aggressively passed Dovi and took off edging away from the red beast and current World Championship leader Valentino Rossi.

The battle between Rossi and Dovi was exciting to watch and did not disappoint. Both riders were hungry for second position and Dovi managed to come out in front even though his Ducati ran out of juice. Both Iannone and Dovi had to park their bikes on the side of the track after the race and get lifts back to the pit lane. Unfortunately, Iannone could not push as hard as he wanted to. This led him to finishing in fifth place. As for Jorge Lorenzo, it was a very tough race for the Spanish Spartan coming in fourth place. He was suffering from bronchitis and had to rely on antibiotics to allow him to race. Jorge did what he could in the situation and struggled due to his physical fitness and lack of performance on the straights.

It was a picture perfect weekend for Australian rider Jack Miller who collected his first set of points. Miller fought hard with Nicky Hayden and the rest of the group. It is clear that Jack learned one key lesson this weekend at Austin and that was management of his tyres. The Australian “jackass” was aggressive on his tyres, which led him to a lack of possibilities towards the end of the race. Without a doubt the rookie rider is proving his worth on board the CWM-LCR Honda Open class MotoGP bike.

In the Moto2 class, Sam Lowes, took his first victory of the season. The British rider suffered a nasty high side crash during practice and managed to come back stronger than expected. He fought hard after being battered and bruised to take the victory after he got in front of Johann Zarco. The British rider is definitely a serious title contender for the Moto2 Championship. Johann Zarco is happy with his second place performance and feels as though the battles are only just beginning. In the Moto3 class, Danny Kent dominated. He won the Moto3 race ahead of 15-year-old rider Fabio Quartararo who is already being compared to Marc Marquez. The Frech youngster put on a stellar show after taking it to Qatar winner Alexis Masbou. Fabio was strong on the brakes and has definitely cemented himself as a contender in the sport.

What a weekend it was of MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3. Austin always delivers and the next race will be the Gran Premio Red Bull De La Republica Argentina taking place 17-19 April 2015.

Plenty more racing to come!
