  • Rare 'John Goss Special' Coupe
  • Three 'no reserve' V8s Muscle Cars
  • Two, one-owner classic Holdens

Classic Australian ‘Muscle Cars’ are both plentiful and affordable at Shannons Melbourne Spring Auction to be held on Monday (September 29).

With the annual Bathurst 1000 less than a fortnight away, the rivalry for the toughest classic in the Shannons ‘gym’ will expectedly be decided on tribal Ford-Holden lines.

1975 ‘John Goss Special’ Ford XB Coupe
This early-build 1975 ‘John Goss Special’ Ford XB Coupe presented in largely unmodified condition is expected to make $45,000-$55,000 at Shannons Melbourne Spring Auction on Monday (September 29).

For Ford fans, there is a very desirable limited edition 1975 ‘John Goss Special’ Ford XB Coupe presented in largely unmodified condition.

To commemorate John Goss' victory in the 1974 Hardie-Ferodo 1000 in a Falcon XA GT, Ford released a limited edition version of the new XB hardtop in August 1975, each one equipped with the GS Rally Pack option, while all were powered by the 302-cid Cleveland V8.

Built in July 1975, this is one of the first John Goss Specials completed and retains the model’s original (but recently rebuilt) 302 V8, mated to a three-speed automatic transmission and fitted with a Ford disc brake 9-inch rear end.

The now-collectible ‘Goss’ has been nicely restored in the correct factory colours of Emerald Fire Green over Polar White by the current owner and currently sits on a set of slightly wider 15-inch 12-slot colour coded rims with trims and caps.

Because of its rarity as one of as few as 260 John Goss Specials built, along with its appealing presentation, Shannons are expecting bidding from Ford fans in the $45,000-$55,000 range.

1968 XT Falcon Sedan
This unique rally-prepared 1968 XT Falcon sedan is expected to sell for $40,000-$48,000 at Shannons Melbourne Spring Auction on Monday (September 29).

Alternatively for Ford fans there is a potent rally-prepared 1968 XT Falcon sedan, a rare left-hand-drive 1967 Falcon Futura Sports Coupe and a ‘no reserve’ 1976 Ford ZG Fairlane upgraded to full 351-plus specification.

Fitted with 302-cid V8 and four-speed manual transmission, the CAMS-logbooked XT Falcon rally car is believed to be to be the only example of its era still competing in historic events.

Originally built by Gil Cameron of Road & Track in Adelaide in 1991/1992, this very successful car has a long and distinguished motorsport history and has been upgraded and continuously improved with no expense spared.

With an estimated replacement cost in excess of $150,000, Shannons expect this unique XT to find plenty of interest from enthusiasts in the $40,000-$48,000 range.

1967 Falcon Futura Sports Coupe
This rare left-hand-drive 1967 Falcon Futura Sports Coupe restored to ‘GTA’ appearance is expected to sell in the $26,000-$34,000 range at Shannons Melbourne Spring Auction on Monday (September 29).

Equally rare is the left-hand-drive 1967 Falcon Futura Sports Coupe that has been restored to ‘GTA’ appearance.

The original C-Code V8 car with C4 three-speed automatic transmission was sourced by the present owner from California in 2005 and underwent a comprehensive bare metal restoration that saw virtually everything replaced, repaired or upgraded after it was shipped to Melbourne.

Because of its head-turning rarity, Shannons expect it to sell in the $26,000-$34,000 range.
However the real surprise packet of Monday’s auction is the deceptively mild-looking, 1976 Ford ZG Fairlane V8 Sedan that was mechanically and cosmetically refurbished two years ago, with its original 302-cid V8 upgraded to 351 specifications.

1976 Ford ZG Fairlane V8 Sedan
This deceptively mild-looking, 1976 Ford ZG Fairlane V8 Sedan upgraded to 351 specifications is expected to sell with ‘no reserve’ for $8,000-$12,000 at Shannons Melbourne Spring Auction on Monday (September 29).

Because of its real ‘’Q-car’ appeal and the quality of its rebuild, Shannons expect it to sell with ‘no reserve’ in the $8,000 - $12,000 range.

For Holden fans there is a very desirable 1972 Holden HQ finished in the eye-catching colour combination of Chateau Mauve Metallic with contrasting black and white Houndstooth trim.

1968 Holden HK Brougham 307 Sedan
This very desirable two-owner 1972 Holden HQ finished in Chateau Mauve Metallic is expected to bring $45,000-$55,000 at Shannons Melbourne Spring Auction on Monday (September 29).

This delightful two-owner Monaro was acquired in 2007 from estate of the original owner in Mount Gambier. Some restoration work had been carried out as far back as 1980, but the new owner treated the Monaro to a respray in 2007 and had the car was re-upholstered at the same time.

With its striking combination of presentation and performance, Shannons expect it to command $45,000-$55,000.

Two other interesting Holden ‘Muscle Car’ – both sought-after one owner from new vehicles  – are being offered with ‘no reserve’ in Monday’s auction.

1972 Holden HQ
This one-owner 1968 Holden HK Brougham 307 Sedan is one of three Aussie Muscle cars offered with ‘no reserve’ at Shannons Melbourne Spring Auction on Monday (September 29), where it is expected to bring $10,000-$15,000.

A 1968 Holden HK Brougham Sedan 307 that has been mechanically and cosmetically refurbished is expected to sell for $10,000-$15,000, while a well-maintained and cherished 1977 Holden HX Statesman Deville, now fitted with a fresher 253-cid V8, is expected to sell for $3,000-$5,000.
