Youngest ever Bathurst Team Qualify for The Great Race

Shannons Supercar Showdown winners Cameron Waters and Jesse Dixon have put in solid performances in practice and qualifying, and will take their spot on grid 29 for Sunday’s 50th running of “The Great Race.”
Waters, winner of last year’s Shannons Supercar Showdown, was only drafted in 2 weeks ago to replace Grant Denyer, who is under treatment for an ongoing back injury. Dixon won this year’s Shannon Supercar Showdown, announced during the final programme last weekend on 7Mate, and has fulfilled a life long promise he made to his father, who passed away from cancer when Jesse was just 11 years of age.
With a combined age of 38, the 2 drivers will eclipse by one year, the previous youngest pairing of Shane Price and Jack Perkins.
Driving the Shannons/Carsales.com.au Kelly Racing prepared Holden, both drivers chipped away in both practice sessions with race setup, and Waters qualifying time of 2.10.48 was only 2.7 seconds off Jamie Whincup’s fastest qualifying time.
“We have worked on the set up over all the sessions, and given this is my first appearance at Bathurst, I didn’t want to do anything silly, just wanted to learn the track and get my times down. Cameron is a great team mate and I am learning heaps,” Dixon said.
“I still can’t believe after just 6 races in the last 2 years, from Suzuki Swifts to V8 Utes, I am now racing at Bathurst in a V8 Supercar, it’s all up to me now to maximize the fantastic opportunity offered.”
The team is moving forward with a keeping on and keeping up attitude and will have one more practice run tomorrow before the big race on Sunday, which will be televised LIVE on Network Seven. (Check Local Guides).
