Hot on the heels of the announcement from Shannons Supercar Showdown that carsales.com.au has joined with the Motor enthusiast insurer to create the Shannons-carsales.com.au Racing Team entry into next month’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, is the news that the team has secured V8 Supercar Race Engineer Barry Ryan to head the teams’ action from Pit Lane.

Shannons Marketing Manager, Mark Behr said, “We are really looking forward to heading to Bathurst with the winner from our TV Series. The car tested really well at Winton the other week and the dedicated pit team that Kelly Racing has assembled puts us in really good hands. Barry Ryan put the Greg Murphy Pepsi Max Racing car on poll position last year at Bathurst, so we know we are in good hands at Bathurst and Bruin Beasely has been faultless in preparing the car through the TV Series and the Winton testing.”

The team had hoped that Grant Denyer would drive in the Dunlop Development Series at Sandown this weekend, however the same shoulder injury that kept him sidelined from heading to the Winton testing, will keep him out of the car at Sandown.

Kelly Racing team owner Rick Kelly added, “At this stage it’s a bit of a wait and see approach on GD (Grant Denyer), but we have been testing some good drivers who will easily fit into the car with our TV Series Winner and with Barry and Bruin at the helm, we will just wait and see how the driver line up unfolds in the next week or so. Barry is a very experienced Bathurst campaigner; he knows the place inside out and how to get the best of a race car.”

Shannons Supercar Showdown can also reveal that its confirmed 7mate will extend the Shannons Supercar Showdown TV series with a special “Bathurst episode” on October 13, capturing all the excitement as the winner from the TV series makes their Bathurst debut with the race team.

“With all the excitement of the 50th Anniversary celebrations of Bathurst this year, we thought it was a great idea to follow our Series Winner as they head to Bathurst and see how they and the team prepare for the race. Our winner will record video diary updates throughout the lead up as we follow their dream and we have a number of innovative ways for race fans to keep up to date with the team.”  With carsales.com.au joining the team, it’s certainly an exciting time at Shannons Supercar Showdown and we can’t wait for Bathurst,” added Behr.
