The Shannons Supercar Showdown competition was rocked by a surprise double elimination on Saturday that saw both Andrew MacLean and Edward Sevadjian sent home.

The Kelly brothers decided to evict both MacLean and Sevadjian after their poor performances this week left the judges unconvinced either were ready to drive a V8 Supercar.

Sevadjian excelled early in the week, winning the 1/8th mile drag race reward challenge and a bonus two-seconds for the elimination challenge. The time discount however, was not enough to compensate for his lazy right foot as he struggled to maintain speed.

MacLean landed in the bottom two after he skipped a gear and sent the Renault’s engine into limp mode during the race challenge, leaving his passenger Rick Kelly fearing for his safety. "I’ve never been so grateful for a seatbelt in my life," said Kelly.

The double elimination left all contestants shocked, especially Sevadjian who had hoped MacLean’s massive error would be enough to save him for another week.

"I figured I was going to be in the bottom two, I felt a little bit better knowing that Amac had just blown his engine up,” he said.

In the end both contestants departed the competition disappointed, but optimistic.

"I’m disappointed, you can't win them all you know. Opportunities come and go and you just got to keep your head down and keep pushing and wait for the next one to come along,” said Sevadjian.

"I had really fluffed my run today and missed a gear which is monumental, you know I’m proud that I’ve made it this far in the competition. I can’t wait to get home and see the kids and the family now and tell them all about this adventure,” said motoring journalist MacLean.

With the double elimination the competition’s final three drivers have been revealed.

Jesse Dixon is a strategist and a serious racer who is focused beyond his years. Will his dedication pay off, or will the 19-year old crack under pressure?

Glen Wood is the competition’s ‘Mr. Personality’. Can the party-boy prove he’s just as good, or better than his brother, V8 supercar driver Dale Wood? Or is he destined to work as a sales rep forever?

Kiwi Andre Heimgartner is the baby of the competition. Will age and experience hold this youngster back, or will Heimgartner follow in the footsteps of Cameron Waters and win the competition?

The final three competitors are gearing up to say goodbye to the Renault Meganes and hello to the Shannons V8 Supercar. It’s going to be one h*** of a showdown!

Shannons Supercar Showdown airs on Saturday on 7Mate (check local guides for times).
