One lucky rookie will win a start on the V8 Supercar grid at Bathurst - at what will be the 50th anniversary of The Great Race. The second series promises even more twists and turns than the Mount Panorama circuit itself.

Ten brand new contestants will vie for their chance to win, including drivers from the USA, New Zealand and across Australia. Among the line-up are two female drivers, who will put their skills to the test to see if they have what it takes.

Shannons Supercar Showdown created history in 2011, with inaugural winner, Cameron Waters, beating the UK's Andrew Jordan.

Waters generated nationwide coverage as the youngest driver ever to compete in the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.

Hosted by Grant Denyer, filming has already commenced as the next group of local and international contestants descended on the Melbourne headquarters of Kelly Racing. Over ten weeks, through a series of challenges and eliminations, our ten hotshots will compete for one coveted V8 Supercar drive alongside Denyer, on board the Kelly Racing prepared Shannons Racing entry.

Denyer promises the new series of Shannons Supercar Showdown will take it to the next level.

"Expect the unexpected is all I can say at this stage! There will be twists and turns to keep the contestants on their toes and V8 fans on the edge of their seats. It's great to have the series rewarded with a promotion to primetime on Monday nights. I believe it's the first time that Australian Motorsport has been telecast in prime time.

Watch out for our international drivers from The United States and New Zealand and some very handy female driving talent as well", said Denyer.

Team Owners of Kelly Racing, Rick and Todd Kelly, who are partnering with the TV series for a second year, will again play the role of judges, as well as overseeing the preparation of the race car for Bathurst.

"This project is close to our hearts at Kelly Racing as it provides the opportunity for race fans to watch as we unearth new driver talent and pit them against the challenges and demands of becoming a race driver at the highest level." said Rick Kelly.

In 2011, the boys entered an historic five cars into The Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 from the Kelly Racing garage. Cameron Waters has gone on to drive in this year's Dunlop Development Series, under the Kelly Racing banner.

"Our sport has so many barriers to entry that identifying and testing new talent through the TV series means that hopefully we can unearth a future star of Australian motorsport. We are delighted with how Cameron Waters is developing, and Sam Reid who came 3rd is also a regular track tester with Kelly Racing." added Todd Kelly.

Shannons Supercar Showdown also won the prestigious Gold Trophy for the Best Use of Entertainment at the recent Festival of Media in Switzerland, and the new series is set to debut across the globe in 2012.

Shannons Insurance is proud to return as series sponsor in 2012, and Manager of Marketing Mark Behr said Shannons Supercar Showdown was a great way for the Insurer to connect with their motoring enthusiast customer base.

"Our customers loved the first series. It was a way for us to involve them in the fairy-tale journey of the contestants, culminating in the eventual winner through the race team at Bathurst. It's the ultimate platform that leverages entertainment and the biggest day in Australian motorsport." said Behr.

In further developments, Shannons have also created an online community for motoring enthusiasts known as The Shannons Club, where visitors to the site become members and upload details and images of their favourite cars and motorbikes, while engaging with others who share the same passion for motoring.

"Shannons Supercar Showdown is an amazing project and the scale to pull something like this off is just incredible" said Denyer.
