Bentley's S1 was introduced in 1955, running concurrently with the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud. Externally there was very little difference, with detail changes around the radiator and badge work allowing one to tell if it was a Rolls or Bentley. Internally they shared a 4887cc version of the long-running Rolls straight-6 with twin-SU carburettors mated to a choice of manual or automatic transmissions. A higher performing variant known as the Continental was also introduced as the final development of a motor that was first pressed into service in the early Twenties.
