History

For more than 25 years, Shannons has been Australia’s leading auction house for veteran, vintage, classic, sports and modified vehicles, as well as classic motorcycles and automotive memorabilia.

Shannons Auctions have re-shaped the classic vehicle market since 1981, setting the reference point for Australian values and becoming the first choice for both private individuals and major Government instrumentalities.

Why Shannons

Shannons cater for the enthusiast and collectors market. Eight auctions are held each year (four each in Melbourne and Sydney) with two major national auctions held in conjunction with the Melbourne and Sydney International Motor Shows.

Shannons also conducts special one-off auctions. For example the Dutton Memorabilia auction, the RTA number plate auction and the sale of private collections.

Our website

With over 70,000 visitors per month, Shannons has one of Australia's most popular automotive websites. Our dynamic website provides a detailed view of all auction lots and allows Shannons to attract buyers and sellers from around the world.

An increasing number of vehicles are also sold to collectors and enthusiasts Australia wide and overseas. Our site is very easy to navigate and provides enthusiasts with comprehensive information.

Our auctions work

Importantly, Shannons not only know all about the vehicles we sell and what they are worth, we know where the buyers are.

As Australia's foremost auctioneers of veteran, vintage, classic, sporting and modified vehicles, as well as classic motorcycles, motoring memorabilia and numerical number plates, Shannons takes the hassle and frustration out of the selling process.

Nationally, we insure more vintage, veteran, classic vehicles and road bikes than anyone else. Shannons know the market because we talk to thousands of enthusiasts every day about their vehicles and their motoring passion.

Shannons Auctions are promoted widely and always well attended by genuine buyers, so it's not surprising more than 80 percent of lots sell on the day of the auction.

Comprehensive Advertising & Promotion

Shannons advertise auction vehicles prominently in major daily newspapers, motoring magazines and on the Shannons website that attracts 70,000 unique visitors a month. This dynamic website includes a selection of detailed pictures of each vehicle, vehicle history and description, as well as independent pre-purchase reports. This allows buyers to fully research lots prior to purchase.

Shannons also distribute 20,000 colour brochures for each auction to clients across Australia and around the world. Regular media releases are distributed resulting in editorial in newspapers, magazine and on websites around the world. In addition, our auctions are promoted during the 400 motoring events around Australia that Shannons support each year. More than 500 enthusiasts also visit our Melbourne and Sydney auction centres each week.

International Motor Show Auctions

Shannons Melbourne and Sydney Motor Show auctions are heavily promoted nationally and internationally. A comprehensive colour brochure is also produced for each auction. Motor Show organisers support these auctions as an integral part of the event and prominently feature the auctions on their websites and promotional activities.

These Motor Show auctions each attract over 200,000 people yearly and represent a unique way of promoting your vehicle to a large national audience.

Open 6 Days a Week, Plus Special Preview Weekends

Shannons is open to the public for viewing 6 days a week Monday through Saturday and holds special preview weekends (Saturday & Sunday) prior to each scheduled Auction.

For the major International Motor Show auctions in Melbourne and Sydney, auction lots are on display for the duration of the Motor Show culminating with the auction on the final day.

Shannons Auction advisors are on hand throughout the preview weekends to assist prospective buyers with viewing auction vehicles, documentation and information on how to bid.

Auction Entry Fee and Commission

Shannons has no 'hidden costs' or small print. We charge a fixed fee for vehicles with Reserve prices and a lesser fee for vehicles submitted with No Reserve. Upon sale a commission is charged (No Reserve vehicles incur a lesser commission).

If your vehicle does not sell at auction, or in the days immediately following, you have the option to transfer it to our Park & Sell area for up to one month at no extra cost.

Shannons Park & Sell

Shannons Park & Sell is an alternative to our auction programme.

It works as follows:

  • You can display your vehicle/memorabilia in either of our Auction Centres, both of which are open six days a week for viewing. Interstate owners can also arrange to display their vehicles at our Auction Centres.
  • Shannons place signage on your vehicle with your contact number and your asking price. Potential buyers can either call you direct - which is usually what happens - or speak to a member of our auction team, who will assist with information on the lot. The more information supplied, the better equipped our team will be to work on your behalf.
  • Prospective buyers have the opportunity to test-drive the vehicle with one of our team members (subject to the vendor's permission).
  • Vehicles are usually displayed in Park & Sell for 4-6 weeks.
  • Your vehicle is featured on the Shannons website and may also be advertised in relevant publications.
  • We charge a fee of $330 (incl. GST) to display and market your vehicle, plus a parking fee upon its sale.
